DVDs
DVDs are not the same as CDs—they’re better! These are associated with CDs because of their identical shape and size, but their formatting is more sophisticated. Referring to either “Digital Versatile Disc” or more commonly “Digital Video Disc,” DVDs are an optical disc designed to incorporate visuals, sound, and motion altogether.
Five types of DVD structures exist, four common and one a new innovation. Of the first four, two are single-sided and two double-sided. Each of these subsets features one single layer (single: DVD-5; double: DVD-10) and one dual layer (single: DVD-9; double: DVD-18). The single-sided DVD structures typically hold 4.7 GB, whereas the double-sided contain a much vaster memory capacity of 8.5 GB. The last or most recent type of DVD is a combination of the DVD-10 and DVD-18, with one single-layered side and one double-layered side. This is a relatively new structure accommodating variation, and has been designated as DVD-14.
DVDs have four different formats: DVD-ROM (Read-Only); DVD-Video (incorporated with Surround Sound); DVD-Audio; and DVD-Data.
Of these four formats, DVD-Video is that utilized for photo files, since photo to DVD is easy due to structure and memory capacity.
