Digital Camera Brands

There are many different digital camera brands, and some of them are names that almost any camera enthusiast would recognize while others are not as well known. Many of the brands that are formerly popular camera brands have gone out of business or have joined with other camera companies.

There are eleven digital camera brands that will be discussed on this website: Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Kodak, Konica, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Samsung, and Sony. Of these major brand names, Konica is the only one that no longer makes digital cameras. Konica merged with Minolta to create Konica Minolta, which did make a few digital cameras, though they now seem to have stopped making digital cameras.

Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Olympus are probably the biggest names in the list of digital camera brands. Most people are comfortable buying products from these companies because the brands have been around for a long time and the products are "tried and true". As this is how most people feel about any name brand, digital camera brands that are new to the market generally don’t fare well and often go under.

There are a lot of different models of digital cameras among the listed digital camera brands. Canon has two main lines of digital cameras: the digital compact cameras called the Canon Powershot, and the digital SLR line called the Canon EOS. Casio has the Exlim series of digital cameras; Fujifilm's FinePix line has compact, semi-compact, advanced compact, and SLR digital camera models. Hewlett-Packard makes a few different digital cameras, though these seem to be mainly for business purposes. Kodak has the DCS Pro series of digital cameras; Nikon offers the Nikon Coolpix compact digital camera series as well as the D-Series digital SLR cameras. Olympus has the C-series cameras; Panasonic makes the Lumix digital cameras; Pentax offers a line called *ist series, as well as the K series and Optio lines. Samsung has some digital cameras, and Sony also offers a line of Cyber-Shot digital cameras.

Of all of these different digital camera brands, there are some that are more popular than others, and there are some that get better ratings from Consumer Reports and other reviewing organizations. The best way to find the right brand of camera for you is to research the best reviewed digital camera brands and then to try the different models for yourself. Only you can decide whether or not a particular camera will work for your needs.
