Storage And Presentation

Photo production extends into presentation because the overall appearance of the created imagery means everything. This also includes some forms of storage, which ensures protection. Together, storage and presentation involves many forms for perpetuating and displaying visual creations.

Among the most common forms of photo storage and presentation are the photo album and the framed picture. These, of course, are traditional and still favored today, despite computerized alternatives, simply because of tradition. Photo album storage comes in many variations, but typically photo albums, like professional portfolios, are either leather-bound or Florentine, seamless, clip-lock or not, with pages consisting of transparent sleeves that seal adhesively over the photos, fixing them in place for posterity. Other variations of the photo album include the ring binder and the small flip album (a portable photo storage device), both of which also contain pages with transparent slip-sleeves. These feature viewable images on both sides of each page, presented in slide-show form, but with every picture showing.

Frames, with or without mountings, encases photos to keep them protected but visible at all times. Mounting, trimming, and lamination prepare the photos for frames, although some laminated photos are not always framed. Frames are made of wood, plastic, or metal, wide or narrow, with a thin piece of glass in front to protect the image from getting dusty or dirty, and a back panel that slides into place to keep the image secured. Some tabletop picture frames have a stand that folds out from the back panel to allow the frame to sit upright for all to see.

Photo presentation boxes are slender and feature windows for viewing. These are like compact cases that can be placed on a desk or table, or can easily be slipped into a pocket and carried anywhere.

As for computerized forms of storage and presentation, the digital photo album allows stores hundreds of images for viewing, either stationery or in slide-view manner. Pictures can be simply changed by pulling up another image from its archive and setting it in the display. How convenient!

Photo presentation software, such as CDs, DVDs, and the new USB Jump drive device, allow for saving and viewing at any time. These must be inserted into a CPU to see, but their storage capacity is anywhere from 128 MB to 2 GB or higher. This is a LOT of space! Of course, videos take up a lot of space, so if one has a great number of videos to store, the higher-level capacities are preferred.

Photo presentation supplies, which include trimmers, mount brackets, precisely cut glass, frames, CDs and DVDs, and open sleeves, allow users to customize their photos and their presentation to suit personal preferences. Photo albums & frames are by far the most common and can be purchased in various designs or colors, with patterns or images to meet personal tastes.

Storage and presentation isn’t necessarily an easy process, but thought must go into it if the images are to be perceived right.
